Single DVR - One week on the road
We only have a single DVR. And we're away on a week's trip to NYC. The DVR is the one that comes with Comcast HD so I cannot control it when away. We're missing tons of programming while we're away because we tape approximately 46 shows (mostly in HD). My first complaint: size of hard drive should be bigger. 4-6 times bigger. Present size limits my ability to consume content & by the same token to view ads.
My second complaint: I find that the lack of remote access to a DVR is the most frustrating thing ever. I would gladly pay extra to be able to access my DVR's menu system remotely.
My third complaint: Why do I have to lease your box? This one is going to be fixed. The cable companies recognize that the outlay of funds to acquire those boxes & the paltry amount that they make off of them is a dead-end revenue stream. They are pushing forward with OCAP (open cable access protocol) which should allow consumers to choose their cable DVR in the future. For example, you might want to have it embedded in your stereo, or your computer, or your TV itsself. Right now there is a TV that has been certified, from LG, & which contains a DVR built into its chassis. Nice.
More info on OCAP:

In the meantime I am doomed to miss this weeks (and probably next) episodes of 24. Poop.
PS. I just finished a bag of "World's Tiniest Popocorn (we think)" in white cheddar flavor. Very tasty.

The Black Donnelly's
OK - we watched it last night. The season pass is set up. It was excellent! They have plenty to work with - loads of characters to develop, many story lines to venture down. I'm ready for a show that is a little more straight forward - my brain hurts from Lost and Heroes each week. From the previews it looked like it was going to be unbelievable - as in, the characters were not going to be credible, and the plot: ridiculous. But NBC did the right thing by getting a good writer and it makes all the difference! I guess they will have to move it to another slot so you S60 fans can have your show back.
why is ashton so into social experimentation?
"New in development at MTV: Room 401 comes from Ashton Kutcher and Jason Goldberg, looks to see how people respond when things around them suddenly become far less than normal. From Katalyst Film and TV, MTV has ordered 8 episodes, and plan to debut this year. "

Ugly Red Dress
I tried to watch some of the program. It comes on at 5:30 here, so I kept getting interrupted by little monsters. I thought Little Miss Sunshine was going to win more - it seemed to be getting a lot of hype leading up to last night. I have yet to judge for myself. Very happy Forest Whitaker won - he's a very interesting actor. One of the few who seem to actually be acting as opposed to just reading lines. Oh my goodness, how horrible was Nicole Kidman's dress? It hurt my eyes (I'm not exactly one to judge though!!)

I forgot to mention that last night's Academy Awards were perhaps the most predictable and boring I have seen in years. The only thing I ascertained from the entire 4 hours in front of the box (while switching back to anything else on tv last night at commercials of course) was I want to see JESUS CAMP. That documentary looks freaking great.

Tonight's Premiere: NBC: The Black Donnellys at 10pm
Question: Are we picking it up? I am sort of considering it since it looks a little soapy and that girl who dated Marissa on The OC is in it. But then again... it IS on NBC and everything on NBC eventually gets dropped. Plus, I might find it difficult to commit to a show that helps put the nail in the coffin of Studio 60, which, in case anyone has forgotten, NBC has "temporarily" shelved while this show (and other specials) make their debuts.
