the cancellations continue

Fox, ABC and NBC all continue to cut shows short before they can develop a real following. Again, I ask, WHAT IS THE POINT OF A MIDSEASON REPLACEMENT?

  • Fox's Wedding Bells from David E. Kelley will air once more before being sidelined.
  • ABC's Six Degrees has seen it's final airing after it averaged a paltry 1.1 A18-49 rating when it returned to the primetime schedule a couple of weeks ago. Six Degrees will be replaced on Fridays at 9p with repeats of Wife Swap until National Bingo Night launches on May 18.
  • NBC's The Black Donnellys will air its last episode on April 16, running just 8 of the 13 episodes ordered. The Monday night 10p slot for NBC is being filled by The Real Wedding Crashers as of 4/23. During the six one-hour episodes, wedding couples team up with five improv comedy performers who try to "crash" the wedding any way they can as guests or wedding party staff. The series is produced by Katalyst Films and Television and New Line Television.
  • Notes from the Underbelly on ABC has been moved - rather than air following Grey's Anatomy on Thursdays at 10p, it's been moved to Wednesdays at 830p following According to Jim, after its premiere on Thursday 4/12 at 10p. Sliding back in on Thursdays at 10p for two additional weeks is October Road, airing 4/19 and 4/26.
  • The CW's Hidden Palms finally has a launch date - Wednesday, May 30 at 8p.
  • 7th Heaven on the CW will not be picked up for another season ... of course, you'll remember they said that about this little-show-that-could last year around this time. This show's series finale is scheduled for May 13 at 8p. This season 7th Heaven has averaged each week 3.4 million total viewers.

When is notes from the underbelly on? I have only ever seen it on a commercial. It looks kind of funny.

Black Donnellys has not been that bad. I actually liked the last episode.

Real Wedding Crashers looks horrible.

Did you hear that the producers tried to end Lost but the network wouldn't let them?

Really depressing about the Black Donnelleys - they didn't give it much of a chance. They really can't afford to have it on a few more times?

Exactly. Against my better judgment I gave NBC a chance this year (I think we all remember both BGH and I freaking out about the cancellation of the Book of Daniel to a perhaps disproportionate degree and my subsequent disgust over the cancellation of Conviction). I knew there was a risk when I picked up Studio 60 and the BDs. If anything, I am now even more firm in my resolve to cut that network out completely and I urge EVERYONE to join me. I am still holding out hope that they post the remaining episodes online for downloading/purchase, although with BOD last year, they only posted 2 of the remaining 9 episodes, so I don't really think it is going to happen. As an additional note, BOD aired in it's ENTIRETY on the BBC to huge ratings and a cultlike following. The fact is, Americans have no taste. Why is Deal or No Deal still on the air?

I am distraught about TBD being cancelled. I felt that with the people involved in its creation there was an excellent chance that it would be given at least a full season for the chracters to develop. I really hope that FX or TNT or some pay channel picks it up. There is great potential within the show to deliver some extremely dark comedic moments that are in short supply among the current spate of programming.

You know, I was starting to like the Wedding Bells too - that's a bummer.

I had completely forgotten about the Book of Daniel - I miss that show. All the shows that require the viewer to have half a brain get cancelled.
